About the Platform
The Climate Investment Platform works with governments at all levels, financial institutions, project developers and the private sector to increase financing for climate action, from mitigation to adaptation, and help countries reach ambitious climate goals.
As a partnership, the Platform provides innovative ways to catalyze climate finance, channel it where it is most needed, and maximize its impact.
The CIP was jointly announced by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), in coordination with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) at the Climate Action Summit in September 2019. By joining their complementary expertise and networks through the Platform, our partners are support ambitious climate targets.
The Platform's first focus is energy transition. It will then expand to facilitate investments in other key areas, such as water, agriculture, cities and transport, to build a climate-resilient future.
Our service offerings aim to realize ambitious climate targets with an integrated upstream and downstream approach to decluttering the financing landscape while delivering a system-wide transformation.
The Platform's service lines will cover key thematic issues across both mitigation and adaptation. The service lines are framed around four tracks: ambitious NDCs, policies and regulations, financial de-risking, and access to capital markets. Each track will bring together a coalition of key partner institutions and initiatives. The Platform will promote coherence across partners' initiatives and facilitate streamlined connections between clients and partner institutions to provide its services to clients.
